Entrepreneurs everywhere are trying to build the better mousetrap. Ann Arbor's Jan and Sassa Akervall believe they have built a better mouth guard.

Dr. Jan Akervall - an ear, nose and throat specialist – invented the mouth guard while figuring out a way to protect his patients' teeth from being chipped during medical procedures. A 2-year-old Ann Arbor startup that has developed a moldable, custom-fitted mouth guard is trying to market the product and its value propositions to a high-school and college athletic equipment industry crowded with competitors.
